Shibui Spa at The Greenwich Hotel
New York City Thegreenwichhotel.com/spa
Down the street from Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Film Center, the luxurious five-room Shibui Spa is a serene Japanese-style retreat, nestled in the lower level of the 88-room Greenwich Hotel. Relax in the lantern-lit pool with its stunning wood and bamboo roof, taken from a 250-year-old Japanese farmhouse. Or sip a cup of jasmine tea on a futon near the tansu. Take off your slippers before you step into the treatment room for the Bamboo Glow, which features a bamboo and lemongrass scrub, shower with yuzu sea algae wash, hinoki mint meditative mineral bath soak in the ofuro tub and a 60 minute shiatsu/Swedish massage that will leave you in a state of zen.

Richel D’Ambra Spa & Salon at the Ritz Carlton

If the swanky lobby lounge is too bustling for your tastes, take the elevator two floors up to the Richel D’Ambra Spa, where the volume turns way down. Listen to the trickling fountain while you nurse a cup of jasmine tea or a flute of champagne in the relaxation room, or breathe deeply in the steam room and sauna before your treatment. The Signature Massage is tailored to your needs, from pain relief to stamina to spiritual energy, using Young Living essential oils and Comfort Zone natural body products. You may still hear the occasional blast of a car horn, but you’ll relax knowing you’re far from the rush.

Spa at the Jefferson Hotel
Washington DC Jeffersondc.com
In a city filled with big buildings and even bigger politics, a visit to this petite spa is a welcome respite. A historic feel courses through the building, from the checkered floor and presidential portraits in the lobby to the Monticello-inspired fragrances in the spa. Yet with just two body treatment rooms, one facial room and a couple’s suite, the spa puts a distinct focus on each guest’s comfort. The Organic Hammam body treatment uses a selection of Red Flower products, providing a purifying and relaxing scrub, steam, hot shower, and massage. The Jefferson theme gives the spa a unique tie to the city, but its serene and intimate setting, attentive staff, and soothing treatments make it easy to feel for a moment like the only one in the capitol.

Spa Remede at the St. Regis
Mexico City stregis.com/mexicocity
The Cesar Pelli-designed hotel, just three years old, has become an architectural landmark, towering above the tree-lined Paseo de la Reforma. From inside the sleek 31-story building, the vistas are breathtaking, especially from the Spa Remede on the 16th floor. The Mezcal Firming Treatment is notable for its use of local products: an invigorating massage with mezcal oil and a scrub made from sea minerals and tequila agave. The spa also offers vegan and gluten-free options, and products made with wild honey, yogurt, clay, and pumpkin.
