Oceanfront thalassotherapy and Atlantic views restore body, mind, and spirit.
Perched on a dramatic stretch of Montauk's coastline, Gurney's Montauk Resort and Seawater Spa offers more than a luxurious escape…it delivers one of nature's most restorative wellness experiences. With panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from nearly every corner of the property, guests are immersed in the calming sound of rolling waves and fresh sea air that have long been associated with improved mental and physical wellbeing.
Science continues to support what beach lovers have always known: spending time near the ocean can reduce stress, lower cortisol levels, improve mood, and encourage mindfulness. The sound of crashing waves activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping the body shift into a state of relaxation, while negative ions in ocean air may contribute to feelings of increased energy and mental clarity. Simply gazing at the horizon has been shown to quiet racing thoughts, making the ocean one of the world's most powerful natural wellness tools.

At Gurney's, the Atlantic isn't just the backdrop; it's woven into nearly every aspect of the guest experience. Floor-to-ceiling windows invite guests to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature from sunrise through sunset. Whether sipping morning coffee on a private terrace or taking a barefoot sunrise walk along the beach, every moment encourages a deeper sense of calm and presence.
The centerpiece of the wellness experience is Gurney's renowned 30,000-square-foot Seawater Spa & BathHouse, home to North America's only ocean-fed thalassotherapy spa. Thalassotherapy, derived from the Greek word thalassa meaning "sea," harnesses the therapeutic properties of mineral-rich seawater, marine elements, and hydrotherapy to promote circulation, ease muscle tension, nourish the skin, and support overall wellbeing.
I loved The BathHouse and took advantage of all their amenities. From a thermal plunge pools and seawater-fed indoor pool overlooking the Atlantic to their eucalyptus steam rooms, dry saunas, and contrast bathing experiences, I couldn’t get enough. Spa treatments further embrace the healing power of the sea through marine-inspired therapies, therapeutic bodywork, advanced skincare, and holistic wellness rituals designed to restore both body and mind.

Dining here is as memorable as its oceanfront setting, with every venue embracing the resort’s coastal spirit. Signature restaurant Gigi’s showcases the freshest local seafood and seasonal ingredients in a stylish dining room overlooking the Atlantic (be sure to try the lobster Tagliatelle). Casual options include the Dune Café, serving fresh coffee, juices, pastries, and salads, while the Beach Club offers beachfront bites and cocktails along its 2,000-foot-long private beach. In the early evening, you’ll be sure to engage in fun conversation with other guests at their outdoor lounge called the “Firepit” for craft cocktails, small plates, and sweeping ocean views.
Wellness extends far beyond the treatment room at Gurney’s. The combination of restorative ocean views and the centuries-old practice of thalassotherapy creates an experience that stays long after checkout.
