Thanksgiving Cocktails

As every good Thanksgiving host knows, with the feast, come the fabulous holiday cocktails. At Chatham Bars Inn, a gorgeous getaway on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Food & Beverage Manager/Mixologist Adam Couto works with his staff to create special seasonal cocktails that guests can create and enjoy.

Right about now, they are mixing drinks inspired by the tastes of Thanksgiving—The Harvest Cosmo, a vodka cocktail, with cranberry shrub, and The Smashed Pumpkin Margarita, with tequila, cinnamon and pumpkin shrub—with ingredients from the Inn's beautiful, eight-acre organic farm.

“We open it up to our bartenders to come up with ideas for the seasonal cocktails,” says Courto. “We like to incorporate something local and something from the farm. In this case, local honey, Cape Cod cranberries and pumpkins. Over the summer, Courto says, “We harvested marigolds and a local brewery made a beer for us.”

Guests gathered around a long table, mixing, garnishing and, finally, toasting with and tasting the cocktails. One guest sipped The Harvest Cosmo and said, “It’s like drinking in the taste of Thanksgiving.”

Chatham Bars Inn Harvest Cosmo Recipe

2 oz. 888 Cranberry Vodka
.75 oz. Cointreau
.75 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. Cranberry Shrub (recipe below)
Garnish: lime zested sugared cranberries

Shrub Recipe:
1 cup cranberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon each: allspice, clove, cinnamon

Combine all ingredients in a glass mixing beaker and stir. Garnish.

Chatham Bars Inn Smashed Pumpkin Margarita Recipe

1.5 oz. Herradura Silver Tequila
.75 oz. Cointreau
.75 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. Pumpkin Shrub (recipe below)
Garnish: cinnamon, sugar, salt rim

Shrub Recipe:
1 can pumpkin purée
1.5 cups sugar
1.5 cups apple cider vinegar
1.5 tablespoons pumpkin spice

Combine all ingredients in a glass mixing beaker and stir. Garnish.
