Seven Easy Tips to Help You Stay Zen During Back to School Season

by Juliana Lytkowski

Back to school outfits, school supply checklists, PTA meetings, sports practices, band, parent-teacher conferences and hectic schedules. Feeling stressed just from looking at this list? You’re not alone.

The beginning of a new school year is a fresh start, so don’t get swept up and sweat the small things. Here are a few tips to help you stay calm during the next hectic weeks to come.

Focus on Your Breathing

Take five minutes, close your eyes and focus in on your breathing. Adjust your posture so that you sit up straight and slowly inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth.

Stay in the Moment

Laser in on the task at hand until it’s complete, and then move on to something else. Don’t take on the burden of worrying about the entire day as you try to pack up lunches in the a.m.

Meditate

Block out quiet time in the morning to meditate, which helps to ease stress and anxiety. Not sure where to start? Check out our Meditation Advice for Beginners.

Stock Up on Healthy Foods

Eating the right food can do more than bring you a moment of peace. Certain foods can help you look fantastic and boost your energy levels so you can power through your daily to-do list.

Listen to Calming Music

Create a playlist of relaxing songs or sounds from nature and allow yourself to focus on melodies and instrument riffs used in the piece.

Use Essential Oils

Essential oils are meant to help balance your emotional well-being, and that includes anxiety. Try inhaling a relaxing blend with lavender to reduce stress.

Practice Gratitude

At the end of each day, take out your journal and write down the good things you want to remember, sending yourself off into a peaceful night of rest.
