Enchanting Ireland

by Sandra Ramani

Adare Manor, an idyllic spot, even offers walks through a Fairy Forest. Set on 840 acres of lush parkland, this historic western Ireland estate—which recently emerged from an extensive renovation— is an idyllic place to reconnect with nature, while indulging in all the things you would want from a vacation.

You don’t have to leave Adare Manor to fish in the River Maigue (the chef will cook anything you might catch), picnic on a lake, horseback ride, shoot clay pigeons or experience the ancient art of falconry.

Back at the elegant main house, decadent afternoon teas (featuring the house blend), gourmet meals (that put a modern twist on Irish staples) and one of Ireland’s most extensive hotel wine cellars (700 labels and counting) all await.

The Spa also celebrates Irish culture and nature; the menu is even separated into goals inspired by the properties of native trees, from birch to willow. Guided Mindfulness Walks take you through the estate’s peaceful Fairy Forest, while a heated indoor pool with river views helps you stay active on a rainy day. Named for the Irish phrase wishing someone “a sound sleep,” the Coladh Samh (pronounced “culla sauv”) service works to ease jet lag and improve sleep quality using targeted, balancing massage techniques, lavender and rose oils and cooling and calming Irish Ogham stones. The stones are also used in the 80-minute Misneach (“inner strength”) treatment, which honors the universally spiritual number seven via breath and energy work and chakra healing.
