Wellness Trend: Birch Water

by Laura Beans

Lately, healthy water alternatives are everywhere: from coconut to cactus, watermelon to artichoke, maple to…well, now birch.

Here at Organic Spa Magazine, we love these H2O substitutes, as they provide the same essential hydration of tap water, while oftentimes offering additional benefits of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Plus the fun flavors make it easier to reach the recommended eight-glasses-a-day benchmark.

Säpp is the U.S.'s first birch water—the all-organic beverage is comprised of one key ingredient: birch sap.

Harvested directly from the birch tree, Sapp’s birch water contains no added sugars, is vegan, gluten-free and non-GMO, plus it has only ten calories per 10-ounce bottle. Sapp’s line includes three flavors: original, nettle and rosehip.

A traditional source of detox in Eastern Europe and Scandinavia, birch water is rich in manganese, enzymes and other nutrients, making it a great source of health and beauty benefits. According to Sapp, birch water flushes out your system by keeping your kidneys, liver, colon and lymph nodes running efficiently; it also boosts metabolism, lowers blood pressure, rejuvenates skin cells and more.

Plus, Sapp puts sustainability at the forefront of its company policy: they work with local farmers to ensure quality, tap only a small portion of the tree’s available sap (a mature birch can produce up to 100 liters per season) to ensure natural rejuvenation and never tap the same trees two years in a row.
