Smart Serums

By Rona Berg / September 18, 2018

A serum may add an extra step to your beauty regimen, but it’s worth it

It seems as though there’s a serum for everything. Like the universal Balm of Gilead, a precious perfumed salve that goes back to biblical times, serums are now considered a cure-all.

But the true beauty of a modern-day serum is that each one is targeted: There is something unique and specially suited for every skin type and concern. One thing all serums have in common is that a little goes a long way.

Serums are effective on their own, or before you apply a moisturizer. Most have a small molecular structure, which enables them to penetrate neatly into the skin, and deliver highly concentrated ingredients—hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, plant extracts and other nourishment. Some are thick and milky, others resemble your face oil’s identical twin.

Be good to your serum—store it in a cool, dry place; keep the top securely closed and use it every day—and your serum will be good to you. Here are a few that we love.
