From the ocean to the bay, and back again, at Curtain Bluff, in Antigua
Set on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the Spa at Curtain Bluff, in Antigua, features an outdoor relaxation area with stunning views of the bay. The bleached wood and white stone decor is framed by tropical flowers that stipple the patio with breathtaking bursts of color. Coconut trees sway in the breeze, as the soothing sound of the water laps against the shoreline.
When it comes to water, guests can also enjoy the wide,white-sand beaches along the bay, or relax to the rhythmic thrum of the waves on the ocean side, where spacious rooms and suites—many with private infinity pools—open directly onto the beach. Take a guided Hobie Cat Sail, go paddleboarding, enjoy a dip in the outdoor pool or bay, or simply bob along on a raft or rock a hammock on the beach. For those feeling more ambitious, book a snorkeling trip to the beautiful Cades Reef, a scuba diving excursion or a fishing trip, or work up a sweat on the basketball or tennis courts, where pros can help you up your game.
However strenuous your day, rest assured, you won’t want to miss joining other guests for cocktails at the Sugar Mill Bar. Enjoy live music and delicious local dishes for dinner at the Tamarind Tree—and smoothies with local “black pineapple” for breakfast—to the chirping of the “sour-sop birds.” The Seagrape, on the beach, is not to be missed: a casual lunch eatery, transformed into a fine dining spot for a romantic dinner. Enjoy a variety of expertly prepared dishes (my favorites were the local fish), and as much of it as you like, since the resort is all-inclusive.
Founded by WWII fighter pilot Howard Hulford in 1962, and still family-owned and operated by Chelle Hulford, Curtain Bluff is an easy, breezy place to relax and unwind with family and friends, the kind of place you will want to go back to, year after year. curtainbluff.com
