This tropical cocktail is a far cry from the paper umbrella drinks we are so used to. We asked mixologist Christian Bolaños from the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Resort in Costa Rica to share one of their locally inspired cocktails.
“Costa Rica's local cocktail , called “Guaro Cacique,” is made with organic sugar cane, organic soursop, organic carrots and beets.”
— Christian Bolaños
- 1 ½ oz. organic sugar cane
- 1 oz. beet juice sweetened with stevia leaf
- ¾ oz. mandarine lime juice
- 2 oz. soursop shrub
- splash of ginger beer
- fresh-cut carrot
Put Guaro Spirit into a shaker and mix with mandarine & beet juice, and then serve in a tall glass full of ice. Add soursop shrub and fill up with ginger beer.
“This cocktail has many health benefits, because the high content of vitamin C inside the citrus juice, it maintains the immune system well. The soursop (exotic Costa Rican fruit) contains antioxidants and is known to lower blood sugar levels. The carrot contains beta-carotene that helps to protect the skin from UV rays.” - Christian Bolaños
