Pet-friendly pooch travel is more popular than ever with more than 85% of dog owners bringing Fido on their family vacation. Before we had our second giant dog, we used to lug our solo big Blue mastiff everyplace that would allow, and he made friends with other spa pooches from Oxnard to Ohio.
Square in America’s adventure playground, the new pet-pampering hot-spot is the Sorrel River Ranch Hotel & Spa in Moab, Utah which offers the new “Adventure Doggy Day Package” which honestly makes the perfect extravaganza and escape for you and your four-legged friends.
The new Adventure Doggy Day’s Package includes:
- Welcome basket with treats from a local “barkery”
- Organic dog treats homemade with local ingredients (ie: organic garbanzo beans and raw carob)
- “My Dog Digs Moab” bumper sticker and refrigerator magnet
- A doggie bandana, scooper and plastic bags
- Water and food bowls and a bed for the visit
Overnight, pet-friendly accommodations starts at $599 per night, based on one pet and up to two human companions.
On the three occasions I have now traveled to red-rock country in Moab, it often seems like the ends of the earth, but major highways run between Sorrel River Ranch and Salt Lake City, Grand Junction, Denver and Las Vegas.
The gorgeous and calming 14,000 square-foot Spa at Sorrel River Ranch also highlights locally inspired treatments (for humans!) including the revitalizing Bourbon Cowboy, which features a raw sugar-and-bourbon scrub followed by a deep-tissue massage ($200 for 80 minutes). Another spa hit for human beings: the Desert Calm Facial that deeply re-hydrates your face, neck and decolletage with essences of calendula and chamomile ($120 for 50 minutes).
At Sorrel River Ranch, your dog is greeted with open paws plus a welcome basket including a custom life jacket and treats. After an afternoon of hiking or lounging outdoors, clean up the pup with the hotel’s posh pet washing station.
If you have leads on great spas that welcome your dog or cat, we want to hear all about it.
