Savvy Rest For The Eco-Savvy Consumer

by Kelly Forrest

Buying a mattress is a big deal. As mentioned in my previous post, the average person spends a decent amount of time in bed- nearly 1/3 of your life!

Keeping that in mind, you should know exactly what materials you are sleeping on every night. A lot of conventional mattresses contain chemicals and artificial products that could be harmful to your health. Flame-retardants, boric acid and potent insecticides, just to name a few. It is important to research your mattress and find out exactly what materials or chemicals your body could be absorbing every night.

For a sneak peak into the world of poly-foams, poly-fibers and other materials used in conventional mattresses, you can check out Savvy Rest’s mattress morgue.

Luckily, there is good news for the savvy and eco-conscious mattress consumer. Organic mattresses are an excellent alternative to conventional mattresses because they are made with all natural and organic products such as latex, cotton and wool.

Organic mattresses were an absolute must in the Rocky River Green Home as they support environmental sustainability while providing a safe and comfortable sleep.

Homeowner and CEO & Founder of Organic Spa Magazine, Bev Maloney-Fischback firmly believes in the product that Savvy Rest offers. "We love the quality and authenticity of Savvy Rest's products and feel good knowing that we are all sleeping on organic mattresses. We have even noticed a difference in my younger son's health when it comes to having less allergy symptoms overall and we know it has to do with the fact that he is now sleeping on organic mattresses and pillows."

Allergens are an important health issue when it comes to pillows and mattresses. Dust mites, microscopic insects that are a common component of house dust, set up housekeeping inside most mattresses, and their droppings can trigger allergic responses. People typically notice reduced allergy symptoms when sleeping on an organic mattress because the materials used are all natural and chemical free.

The Savvy Rest mattresses featured in the home are made from exclusively organic materials. The organic wool is a natural insulator free of synthetic chemicals. The wool is cleaned without bleach or solvents making it very appealing and also very comfortable. Wool also promotes a more relaxing and cozy sleep environment because it doesn’t develop hot or cold spots. The organic wool is slow burning and does not quickly ignite, meaning that these mattresses meet federal safety standards without having to use harmful chemicals, a very appealing factor for families.

Another component to these mattresses is organic cotton, a plant that is sustainable, chemical free and supports local farmers. To read more about the health and environmental benefits of organic cotton, click here.

The final component is organic latex. The Dunlop latex that Savvy Rest uses is certified organic on both ends, the rubber tree plantations are USDA organic and the natural processing is also certified organic to the Global Organic Latex Standard.

All of these organic materials go into making a Savvy Rest mattress that offers consumers purity, comfort, integrity and long-lasting value.
