“Beauty is not of the Face, Beauty is a Light in the Heart” ~Khalil Gibran
Mary Beth Janssen, your Organic Beauty Expert here, and I’m calling on all you sensual beings out there to join me in tipping the energetic scales of the universe from craving, distraction and aversion to presence, beauty and truth.
There’s no doubt that real beauty begins with health. It’s true health–feeling good inside and out–that allows the most radiant beauty to emerge. So together, let’s light that inner flame of purification, shall we…and let it shine from every fiber of our being! Come cleanse with me…I’m a few days in and raring to share my experiences with you.
In the holiday issue just past, I shared the 24/7 approach to detox, where attention is given to keeping our eliminative pathways working optimally everyday and all the time… http://www.organicspamagazine.com/2011/11/the-good-the-bad-and-the-toxic/. Naturally, in the wellness/spa world, there are a variety of highly specialized and intensely focused detox treatments, modalities and programs for cleansing. I’m sharing one of these programs with you following, based on my personal experience…
So join me here over the next month as I follow the Goddess of Raw, the Guru of Detox…Karyn Calabrese through her renowned 28-day detoxification or cleansing program (http://www.karynraw.com/Detox). Over her thirty-five years in the healing arts, Karyn has been a powerful health advocate and guide to thousands of men and women as they’ve used what she calls “Nature’s Healing System” to relieve a plethora of health conditions. So this bears asking the question here…what is ailing you? Define what it is here and now. Obesity? Insulin Dependence? Migraines? Gastro-intestinal issues? Sinus problems? High cholesterol? Fibromyalgia? Uterine fibroids? Blown-out adrenal glands? Depressed metabolism? Endocrine disorders? And the list of chronic and degenerative diseases goes on. Everyone of you reading this may come to a cleanse for differing reasons. It may be to manage stress, to lose weight, to heal some form of chronic or acute health condition, to overcome addictions, to assuage emotional toxicity, to connect deeply with the spiritual layer of your being, and so on. Truly, I have found when you become more connected to the layer of your being that is pure consciousness or spirit, you become more present, more aware, more awake, and begin to live in a most life-affirming way, where you turn from those lifestyle habits that cause you pain and suffering–that wreak havoc with your health and well-being. This is certainly an integral part of cleansing.
For me personally and specifically, the past year has been one of intense crisis for several of my loved ones. Even using all the tools I have for managing these stressors…the inherent shock and fall-out has greatly impacted me and taken a toll on my mindbody physiology, and specifically on my hormonal system. Add to this my transit through the menopausal passage…and you have my raison d’être for wanting to peel away the layers of darkness and open up to the light, to balance mind, body and soul, and quite frankly, get my mojo back. I have no doubt that Karyn and her program will provide a hearty assist with my intention. I’m already feeling it!
At its heart, Karyn’s program combines carefully calibrated cleansing, fasting, and a raw, vegan diet to rebalance the body, remove years of accumulated toxins and restore one’s flagging life-force energy.
I’m attending Karyn’s Winter program, where we meet with Karyn herself for a 2 hour session over 4 weeks at Karyn’s Inner Beauty Spa in Chicago. She is a walking advertisement for for the lifestyle she espouses and teaches. At 65 years old, she doesn’t look a minute past 45. She exudes such warmth, passion and radiant energy in her walk, her manner, her voice. And she knows her stuff! The depth of her knowledge is quite impressive and her association with a number of top integrative physicians who recommend her program speaks volumes in and of itself. Of course, if you cannot attend one of her 4 yearly on-site programs, you can experience the cleanse by purchasing her book and following along: Soak Your Nuts: Cleansing with Karyn: Secrets for Inner Healing and Outer Beauty. She also has a fairly large following of her teachings on YouTube.
The room at this first session is overflowing…with a third of the class attendees alumni, which says alot about her devotees and the program’s success. Indeed, she shares that a large number of her students return again and again to detox under her nurturing guidance.
I love her encouraging words to the attendees like, “I’m here to help you wake up to the truth,” “You’re going to redesign your inner being,” and “Be kind and gentle to yourself.” It’s quite re-assuring to hear her encouraging words, with what could be daunting prospects for some.
In this first session, she presents what she calls the Week One Protocol… and leaves a bit of skosh room for the participants to adapt to the degree that will make them most comfortable and succeed. She provides both the “Conservative” as well as “Optimal” approaches for the week following. Conservative includes: no cow secretions (no dairy), no baby fetuses (no eggs), and no meat, fish or chicken. The Optimal approach is raw/vegan. Thus far, I find myself half way in-between the conservative and optimal approach. She also spells out the supplements and foodstuffs to be used and their usage. You may choose her organic, raw, vegan offerings…or opt to seek out your own. More info on this to come.
For week one’s protocol, I’m doing my morning green shake, my enzymes, my chlorella, my fenugreek capsules, my kamut drink, my rejuvelac, and my clay/psyllium cocktail before retiring.
I’ll be sharing more about the practical aspects of the cleanse, including the symptoms of cleansing next post…please feel free to ask any questions as they arise…
Til soon!
Organically yours,
Mary Beth
