WILLKA T'IKA

PERU

Rejuvenate, relax, and cultivate well-being at Willka T’ika, our exquisite eco-friendly sanctuary located between the world heritage site of Machu Picchu and the Incan capital of Cusco.

Willka T’ika sits in Peru’s Sacred Valley of the Incas, located between Machu Picchu and the Incan capital of Cusco. It’s located in what is considered one of the most energetically charged places on earth, making it the perfect spot to unplug and restore mind, body and soul.

Willka T’ika, which translated means “sacred flower,” was founded in 1995 as a sustainable, culturally responsible wellness retreat. While guests experience amazing indigenous treatments, including ceremonies conducted by trusted Andean healers, Willka T’ika walks the holistic wellness talk by employing a score of staff from local Quechua communities. The retreat’s Willka T’ika Children’s Fund supports a nearby mountain school located in a remote village. The funding of the school comes in part from the profits of the on-site store, which sells unique, local, handmade jewelry and craft products.  Spending part of a day with the kids in their classrooms is part of the wellness experience.

Plus, concern for the natural environment is evident everywhere, as guests indulge in fully inclusive programs, including farm-to-table meals, guided trips through sacred Incan sites, tours of the property’s gardens and Andean massage treatments provided by the Quechua staff.

Willka T’ika is an example of land revitalization made possible through cooperation with and giving back to nature. The adobe mud bricks used to construct the resort were made on-site. The bricks keep interiors warm and cozy during Andean nights and pleasant during the hot, sunny days. Giant storage tanks collect the resort’s weekly allotment of mountain water from the local water cooperative. The landscape design, which encourages a sense of calm, has helped revitalize local plants and wildlife.

A good way for guests to get in touch with the natural surroundings is to take quiet strolls through one of the Seven Chakras gardens. Each garden contains flowers, symbols, shapes, sculptures and medicinal plants that resonate with one of the classic seven chakras, or energy centers, of the human body. More vigorous nature endeavors include hikes in the Andes mountains and yoga under the shade of a 1,000-year-old lucuma tree. willkatika.com
