When it comes to handbags and wallets, I try to buy vegan as much as I can. I especially like the wallets by Matt & Nat that make it easy to stay organized while cutting back on your environmental impact.
The Montreal-based company got their name from MAT(T)erial and NATure. From the start in 1995, Matt & Nat was committed to not using leather or any other animal-based materials. Over the years, the company experimented with different eco-friendly materials such as recycled nylon, rubber and cork. Since 2007, it has been committed to using linings made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles. On average, approximately 21 plastic bottles are recycled for every bag produced. The vegan brand uses PU (polyurethane) whenever possible since it’s less harmful to the environment than PVC (polyvinylchloride), and the company produces its own custom hardware.
You don’t have to be a vegetarian to love the vegan handbags and wallets by Matt & Nat. The designs are really functional with a clean look. Especially when it comes to wallets, this can be very helpful. As life seems to get more complicated, so does my wallet. I used to just carry a debit card. Now, there seems to be a card for everything from driver’s license, health insurance to AAA.
There are two collections that caught my eye since both wallets can also be worn on a strap. The first one is the Sari wallet, part of the Vintage Collection. It’s a bifold accordion wallet that can be worn crossbody with a removable strap. The second one is the May wallet, a trifold wallet with a removable handle as part of the Block Collection. It has 10 card slots, four bill compartments, and a zippered coin pouch. The lining is made of 100 percent recycled nylon and it comes in Black, Marigold, and Opal. Recycled plastic bottles never looked that stylish.
