Reiki, a type of energy work practiced privately and in spas, can be a powerful stress reliever. In Japanese, “rei” means “the higher power” and “ki” is “life force energy.” But the optimal results can be elusive if not performed correctly.

We spoke to Master Reiki Teacher Leanne Voosen, from the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, CA, about how to find the best reiki teacher. She also shared some of the best reiki tips with us. Leanne has been practicing reiki for over 13 years.

How to Choose a Reiki Master

  • Since reiki is based on energy, connecting with the practitioner is key.
  • Look for longevity of practice due to the fact that reiki is like wine: it becomes better with age.
  • Look to others that have experienced reiki and would recommend the provider that they visited.
  • There are four levels of reiki training. Look for someone that has the title of reiki master in their credentials.
  • Look for a provider that is passionate about performing reiki, not someone that “goes through the motions.”

The Benefits of Reiki

  • Balance
  • Relaxation
  • Clarity
  • Connects mind, body and spirit
  • A non-invasive approach to healing discomfort in the physical body

Overall, reiki has different benefits for each person as it is such a personalized treatment.
