If you are like me, you enjoy watching the Oscars. Even if you don’t make it to all the movies that had been nominated, it’s always a great time to see the hair, makeup, and clothes that walk the red-carpet. This year here are some of the looks and highlights that caught our attention.

Proud Mary: Mary J Blige was the real winner last night making history as the first person to ever receive a double nomination for best original song in a movie and Best Supporting Actress. Both nominations were from the film Mudbound. She also gave a spectacular performance last night with her rendition of the gospel-inspired song “Mighty River” from the film.

I am very proud to say that I worked with Mary J for two years on tour as her personal makeup artist. Mary has beautiful skin in which she takes great pride. To prepare your skin for the red carpets in your life, you must start the night before. After you cleanse and tone with your favorite clean products, try Essence Restorative Night Treatment by Vapour Organic Beauty. This product is a star in your beauty sleep. It brightens your skin tone with botanicals such as organic sea buckthorn oil, organic pomegranate oil.

The next day to ensure your skin is lights-camera-action ready for your big event try YES TO GRAPEFRUIT VITAMIN C GLOW-BOOSTING SNAPMASK STICK before you apply makeup. Mary likes her skin to glow and doesn’t like to look like she is wearing a mask. To achieve this on your own, try “Un”cover-up by RMS.

Timeless Beauty: Meryl Streep is always flawless. She is very comfortable in her age and is always dresses appropriately. She has had 21 Oscar nominations in her career. This year she was up for Best Actress for her role in Steven Spielberg’s The Post. She didn’t win for her role last night, but she always gets an award on the red carpet. She takes a stunning picture, and last night was no exception. Meryl showed up rocking a timeless red dress by Christian Dior. The silver wire glasses she wore, help to accent her cheeks when she smiled. If you are going to wear glasses to a big event, don’t be afraid to go bold on your eyes. We love the dark eyeliner on her lids she wore and her beautiful glowing cheeks. I suggest trying the multi-use stick in the shade I Put A Spell On You by Ilia Beauty on your cheeks, along with your favorite black eyeliner on your lids.

Velvet Crush: Did you see the men at the awards last night? Finally, something to talk about in men's fashion on the red carpet that is not a tuxedo. Last night we saw the velvet suite make a huge comeback. We first saw the re-emerge of velvet in 2015 on the Oscars red carpet. Eddie Redmayne had this to say: “Velvet is great. It’s warm as well. And it’s snug. Go full velvet is my advice.” I guess the four men we saw rocking velvet last night got the memo. For all of my men going green, I have good news. According to sustainable fashion designer Kristen Avery Luong, velvet can be made from organic cotton or hemp as alternatives. Her company KROMAGNON specializes in sustainable men’s wear.

I hope this years Academy Awards inspire you to get your green- glam-on.
