In the heart of New York City, set within the towering skyscrapers and the city’s bustling energy, lies an oasis of tranquility: The Mandarin Oriental, New York. While it’s world-renowned for opulent accommodations and impeccable service, what truly sets this luxury hotel apart is its unwavering commitment to wellness.

Within the confines of the Mandarin Oriental are their spa and wellness facilities that span 14,500 feet high above Manhattan. This five-star spa welcomes you with an oriental tea lounge set on the 35th floor, while their 6,000-square-foot fitness center has state-of-the-art equipment on the hotel’s 36th floor. The 75-foot lap pool, with floor-to-ceiling windows, is bathed in natural sunlight overlooking the city with expansive views of the Hudson River.

The Spa’s comprehensive menu of treatments draws inspiration from both Eastern and Western healing traditions. With many signature treatments offered, their unique “Time Ritual” treatment allows guests to book an allotted length of time, rather than a specific treatment. This allows the therapist to customize a plan specific to your needs. Located with their Spa is a 650-square-foot VIP suite, replicating an Oriental-style home complete with a fireplace, deep soaking tub, and dual massage beds. There are separate water therapy offerings in each locker room, my favorite being their amethyst crystal steam room, designed to induce mental peace and meditation through the healing power of the crystals that serve as the centerpiece of the room.

There are many wellness programs offered at the Mandarin Oriental to complete your stay. Located adjacent to New York’s Central Park the hotel takes full advantage of the park’s proximity. You can book a two-hour guided bike tour of the park with a dedicated expert tour guide, or just head out on your own for an early morning jog.

Their “Suite Wellness Retreat” is available for a two-night minimum stay which includes an in-suite spa massage, a curated private wellness session with a personal trainer, and their Wellness Concierge. You’ll have the option to choose a restorative workout, yoga practice, meditation, tai-chi, or a Pilates session held in the privacy of either your suite, fitness center, or Central Park (I recommend Central Park if the weather permits). To complete this wellness program, a daily dining credit is included with healthy breakfast selections, welcome fruit, and filtered water.
