It took founder and makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis eight years to develop the formulations that would create a perfect balance between nature and performance. After all, she says, “You want people to notice how great you look, not how great your makeup looks.”
Kjaer Weis grew up on a farm in Denmark, studied in Paris and is now based in New York City, where she runs her company and works on photo shoots for ELLE, Marie Claire and Vogue. Here, Kjaer Weis shares some of her favorite tips with OSM.
Why did you start your line?
I recognized a clear need in the marketplace for a natural brand that could provide consumers with high-performance products that were also beautifully designed and packaged. I also found it to be very frustrating that women were accepting the negative experience of breakouts and allergic reactions when using cosmetics.
What makes it most unique?
Kjaer Weis is unique because there is truly no compromise. My main focus when creating the line was to have an equal emphasis on purity of ingredients, performance and design. It delivers on all three categories.
As a makeup artist, what are some of your favorite trends this season?
I am an advocate of not covering up your skin. I love a fresh-faced, glowy look. I love using warm and rich tones. Shades with a copper and slight metallic finish are perfect.
Would you share three of your top tips for holiday makeup?
