Festive looks that let you sparkle this holiday season

From the office party to cookie swaps to ringing in the New Year, there is plenty of partying to be done during the holiday season. To mark the merry occasions, let your makeup get in on the fun.

“The holiday season lets us play with glitter and gleam that’s a bit more festive than our typical day-to-day looks,” says Christy Coleman, chief artistic officer at Beautycounter. “I love an unexpected pop; it helps to brighten the eye and it stands out in photographs.”

Focus on letting one area of your face sparkle and shine. These looks will do the trick.

The Eyes

“We worked hard on our new velvet eyeshadow palette for holiday (in Iconic) to create the richest pigment and boldest sparkle without the questionable ingredients,” Coleman says. “In place of glitter, we used mica, which is safer for your eyes. Use this palette to get the look.”

Step 1:
Apply Bangle on the eyelid up to the brow bone.

Step 2:
Apply Pendant on the upper and lower lash line.

Step 3:
Apply Lace in the corner of each eye.

Step 4:
Using your finger, apply one tap of Sequin right in the center of the eye.

The Skin

“A touch of radiance is always ideal,” says Vinnie Vitolo, west coast regional makeup artist for Vapour Beauty. “As a finishing touch after foundation, apply Vapour Beauty Halo Illuminator 24K as a highlighter. This warm, shimmery gold is the perfect complement to any skin tone and will add instant glam to your look.”

Step 1:
Using your fingertips, warm Halo 24K with circular motions to fully cover your fingertips in golden pigments.

Step 2:
Apply Halo 24K to illuminate the tops of your cheeks, forehead, bridge of your nose and chin. 24K is also beautiful along the brow line and inside corner of the eye to add a touch of shimmery light.

Step 3:
Apply 24K along the collarbone, shoulders and décolleté to accent the skin. It’s especially gorgeous with off-the-shoulder, strapless or cut-out fashion styles. In warmer climates, apply to the shin and tops of the feet to add a feminine glow.

The Lips

A pucker that pops is a timeless holiday staple.

Step 1:
Keep the edges around the lip darker so it holds the depth around the line, using a liner or long-wearing lipstick, such as Kjaer Weis lip liner in Rose, and fill in with Beautycounter Lip Gloss in Magnolia Shimmer.

Step 2:
Finish with a sweep of powder highlighter on the cupid’s bow to open the top lip line. Coleman recommends RMS Beauty Living Luminizer.
