Calorie Killer Yoga

Yoga power couple Colleen Saidman and husband Rodney Yee just opened their second Yoga Shanti studio, in New York City. (The original one is in Sag Harbor, NY.) If you are not in the vicinity, check out Colleen’s new DVD, Calorie Killer Yoga, with five new practices that combine the mind-body aspects of yoga with the benefits of a good cardio workout. The practice will increase metabolism, strength, flexibility, balance and focus, with the 15-minute Rise & Shine, a perfect start to the day; Constant Cardio, a fat-burning workout; and Balance & Restore, a gentler slower balancing practice that focuses on flexibility. $14.98;

Competitive Cleanser

Rockin’ Green, a line of eco-friendly cleaning products, just launched Rockin’ Green Athletic Wear Detergent, specifically formulated for activewear and workout clothes. Why do athletes and workout warriors need a special detergent?

According to Kimberly Webb, CEO/founder, Rockin’ Green, “When it comes to athletic wear,  traditional detergents can cause more harm than good. Things like optical brighteners and fragrances can coat the fabric, giving bacteria and stink something to hold onto. When you wear the item a second time, the bacteria and smell is reactivated causing even more odor and irritation. This is why it’s crucial to have a clean rinsing detergent that doesn’t leave anything behind.”

Rockin’ Green products are made with a biodegradable, plant-based and petroleum-free surfactant. They are septic and grey-water safe, not tested on animals, and come in recyclable packaging. $15;

The sleek, stylish line of water bottles made by SIGG, the Swiss company that has been in business since 1908, just expanded with a new design, “The Active Top,” featured in bright rainbow colors. The flip top is perfect for someone who is on the elliptical five days a week, training for a marathon, or enjoying a light hike on the trail, and doesn’t want to have to unscrew—and risk losing—the top. It’s lightweight, durable and BPA- and phthalate-free. The streamlined design is also great for kids who play sports! $28;

Energy Boost

Everyone is looking to supplement their protein intake these days, especially after a workout, but unfortunately, protein supplements and drinks don’t always taste very good! But how can you go wrong with chocolate?

Rainbow Light’s Chocolate Protein Energizer offers 14 grams of non-GMO sprouted brown rice protein per serving, energizing herbs (American ginseng, ashwagandha and more), organic spirulina and plant-based digestive enzymes. It’s vegan, with no soy, gluten, dairy or added sugar, and stimulant-free.

According to Sharon Dressen, senior manager, Education & Outreach, “The brown rice protein contains a complete amino acid profile, and amino acids help with muscle recovery. Organic spirulina and adaptogenic herbs bring your body into balance.” $21;
