Emerald Glow

By Sandra Ramani / July 19, 2017

In the Four Seasons Hotel Bogotá’s elegant subterranean spa, the signature Fura’s Emerald Treatment begins with a story. As the legend goes, therapists reveal, Colombia’s thriving emerald industry was born of the epic love between two immortal beings named Fura and Tena, who, following a series of tragic events, were turned into two craggy peaks by the god Ares. Destined to be forever separated from her love, Fura eternally cries deep, soulful tears—which become the sparkling emeralds now found in the mines of the Muzo region, under the watchful gaze of those towering green peaks.

Mineral-rich emerald dust extracted from those same mines is incorporated into the nourishing two-hour treatment. Following a circulation-stimulating dry brushing, the body is scrubbed, wrapped and hydrated with an emerald dust-infused scrub, mud mask and hydrating lotion, leaving skin supple and glowing. Through it all, therapists work with purposeful, pampering movements, lulling those on the table into a serene state. At the end, a grounding meditation and the reciting of a short message designed to unlock the heart chakra bring the focus back to love—albeit with a more uplifting ending than the tale of Fura and Tena. fourseasons.com
