Beeswax Ornaments: Green Your Holiday Decor

As the holidays are approaching fast, lighting candles is a nice way to create a festive mood and slow down. Unfortunately most candles sold in stores are paraffin candles made with petroleum-based wax. Instead you might want to consider beeswax candles by Big Dipper Wax Works as a green alternative. I discovered them as I was looking for eco-friendly pillar candles to be used in lanterns and hurricane glass sleeves. Beeswax candles are made from a renewable resource, burn cleaner and longer than paraffin candles. While burning they emit negative ions that are believed to improve the air quality by eliminating pollutants and allergens. According to WebMD negative ions are found around mountains, waterfalls, or beaches and can boost your energy and mood. That’s certainly something I would like more of during the stressful holiday season.

Bigger Dipper candles are made from locally sourced 100% beeswax without any chemical processing. The beeswax is filtered through a natural clay process to clean the wax of impurities. All candles are made by hand in small batches and the colored beeswax candles are made with eco-friendly dyes. Not only are the candles made from all natural, biodegradable ingredients but also the packaging considers the environment. For example, tins are made from at least 75% recycled metal and boxes and labels use post-consumer recycled paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The company supports sustainable beekeeping by donating 10% of their net profits to organizations that promote sustainable beekeeping through education and research.

Honeybees need protection since they are increasingly vanishing due to urban sprawl, pesticide use in agriculture, disease, and climate change. According to a report by USDA and EPA on the health of honeybees, an estimated one-third of all food and beverages are made possible by pollination. Big Dipper’s beeswax candles come as tapers, pillars, votives, and glasses with refills. For the holiday season, make sure to check out the beeswax ornament candles in frolic, blossom and flurry. They will cheer up your home for sure and make great holiday gifts.
