Meditation is soul cleansing. And endless studies concur: the mindful practice has serious body benefits from boosting immunity to helping heart health. But with laptops and smart phones, wearables, and even those elevators with televisions, it’s really a wonder we can actually disconnect and just be in the moment. In a somewhat counterintuitive move, a host of apps are solving this problem of overstimulation with guided meditations. Here, some that we’re buzzing about:

Headspace has an introductory “Take 10” program, which is 10 guided sessions of 10 minutes of basic meditation, as well as hosted and creative exercises from two minutes to an hour. Choose from one-off themes, such as decrease anxiety, amp up creativity and improve interpersonal relationships. Programs are online at headspace.com and available for iPhone and Android operating systems. $12.95 a month.
 
Calm Like its peers, this app offers guided meditation in two- to 20-minute sessions. Users select the screen scenery with accompanying sounds. Programs can also be selected for goals such as anxiety release and overall calming. Programs are online at calm.com and available for iPhone and Android operating systems. The first of seven steps is free, $5 thereafter.

Buddhify More than six million minutes of meditation have been observed using this international app. A menu of more than 80 guided experiences—coping with pain, stress management, emotional balance, for example—offers results-oriented practices. Some can be observed on the go. Programs are online at buddhify.com and available for iPhone and Android operating systems. $3.
