A Revamped Spa Escape

by Sandra Ramani

New Hampshire’s Omni Mount Washington has served as a beloved getaway for generations. For over 100 years, guests have descended on the registered landmark property—set at the base of the highest peak in the northeast—for winter activities like skiing, snow tubing, and sleigh rides, as well as warmer weather pursuits like hiking, golf, fly fishing, and relaxing on the covered porches.
Following extensive renovations and the launch of a revamped, 25,000-square foot spa, the resort is now a wellness destination—and an eco-friendly property. Under the guidance of Spa Director Libby Staples, the 13-room retreat (which overlooks the majestic Presidential Mountain range) aims to “bring the outdoors in” by reflecting nature in both the décor and philosophy. The spa recycles and donates products and linens to local humane societies and women’s shelters. All the products used—like botanical skin-care line Naturopathica, vegan nail care by SpaRitual, and natural mineral makeup brand Jane Iredale—are chosen for their “green-ness” and sustainability. Seasonal treatments like the Lavender-Lime and Maple Sugar scrubs are performed using organic, locally made CW Therapeutics products crafted by one of the spa employees. The house brand Mountain Mist line features native ingredients like rosemary, nettle, and muscle-soothing candytuft (Iberis flower.)

One of the best examples of the spa’s “farm-to-table” approach is its relaxing Herbal Garden Treatment, which begins with choosing ingredients from the on-site herb garden. The therapist then mixes freshly picked herbs into a sugar body scrub and oil; the former is used along with a mud mask to exfoliate and detoxify, and the latter is applied to the scalp and body to hydrate and nourish. The 75-minute treatment can be upgraded to include a 50-minute massage, also using your fresh, custom-made herbal oil. omnimountwashingtonresort.com
