A New Chapter at Coworth

by Lisa Loverro

From historic polo estate to hyper-personalized spa sanctuary, Coworth Park redefines countryside luxury today.

Part of the Dorchester Collection located in Ascot, Berkshire, and just 45 minutes from London, Coworth Park’s story stretches all the way back to 1776, when it belonged to William Shepheard, a wealthy landowner and East India merchant. Over the centuries, the estate traded hands among an impressive roster of lords, ladies, and even the Earl of Derby. Its glamorous polo era began in the mid-1980s, when retail magnate Galen Weston, of Selfridges and Fortnum & Mason fame, bought the property and added its first polo fields and stables. By 2001, a second ground and practice field had transformed the estate into a luxe polo haven. In 2008, an ambitious restoration project reimagined the Georgian manor as a modern country house hotel and spa. Coworth Park officially joined the Dorchester Collection family in 2010, becoming its eighth hotel and one of its most charming countryside escapes.

This modern country house hotel in the heart of Berkshire, has recently unveiled its reimagined spa; an elevated haven designed to slow the pace and reconnect guests with nature. Working in harmony with the estate’s 240 acres of rolling countryside, The Spa at Coworth Park blends restorative rituals with nourishing therapies to create a one-of-a-kind sanctuary. Charlotte Parsons, Spa Director at Coworth Park, explains that “At our spa, hyper-personalisation is at the heart of every experience, with bespoke consultations that position treatments as essential lifestyle enhancements. We curate transformational therapies designed to deliver physical, mental, and emotional renewal beyond fleeting relaxation. For facials, we partner with Natura Bissé, a globally acclaimed brand celebrated for its scientifically advanced formulations, ensuring results-driven skincare that combines cutting-edge innovation with indulgent serenity."

A highlight of the renovation is the expanded thermal suite as well as the new poolside thermal area which features a Finnish sauna, citrine-lined steam room, and invigorating snow shower. The gym has also been transformed into a space for energy, clarity, and movement, now home to the UK’s first Technogym Luxury Artis line. A state-of-the-art Technogym Checkup station offers intelligent assessments of strength, mobility, and balance, providing a bespoke foundation for personal fitness journeys.

Eight renewed treatment rooms, named for Coworth Park’s native flora, house an elevated menu of therapies crafted in partnership with Natura Bissé, among others. A 360-degree consultation and personalized soundscapes ensure each treatment is tuned to the individual.

Afterwards, the new spa café serves nourishing dishes by executive chef Adam Smith, with fresh salads, vibrant bowls, juices, and herbal teas enjoyed on a terrace overlooking the estate. Beyond the spa, Coworth Park encourages guests to embrace nature with woodland walks, foraging adventures, outdoor yoga, equestrian wellness, meadow bathing, and sound healing—inviting a deeper, more mindful connection to the land.

The onsite restaurant, Woven, by Adam Smith has intertwined itself into the fabric of Britain’s most exciting dining destinations. This Michelin-starred dining experience offers a feast for all senses, a place where every plate tells a story and every ingredient earns its spotlight. Smith’s “taste is king” philosophy shines through in dishes that blend classical technique with modern flair, all seasoned with a dash of theatrical storytelling. Upon entering, you’ll notice their striking wine cellar and pantry, where chefs put the finishing touches on seasonal canapés. In the main dining room, nothing is ordinary: from the handmade, mismatched cutlery to the mix of vintage and modern plates, every detail is chosen to heighten the experience. Smith’s creativity is grounded in the Berkshire countryside, inspiring vibrant dishes that showcase the very best seafood, butchery, foraged mushrooms, hand-picked herbs, and native produce.
