Sense Spa at the Rosewood, San Miguel de Allende

Rosewood Hotel’s Sense Spa in San Miguel de Allende has the perfect antidote to the city’s 6,000-foot-high altitude: Its San Miguel Signature Mole body treatment is formulated to ease the effects of dryness, energy loss and interrupted sleep that can be attributed to high elevation. Spa Director Paulina Mercader says the mission of the spa is to “provide customers with a sense of place, inspired by the Mexican culinary scene which San Miguel is known for.” By using the ingredients found in mole, a traditional Mexican sauce, the spa has developed its signature body treatment that will transport you straight into abuela’s kitchen.

The rejuvenating service begins with a mole spice and cocoa scrub made with crushed coffee, coconut, cacao and almonds, vigorously applied to the skin to help stimulate and improve blood flow. While the cacao is packed with antioxidants that help repair damaged skin cells, the caffeine from the coffee contains potent anti-inflammatory properties, making it ideal for evening out skin tone and reducing inflammation.

Concluding with an invigorating massage using an oil blend of rosemary, lavender and camphor, this treatment is sure to not only repair the skin but also ease tension often associated with traveling. rosewoodhotels.com

Aurora Spa at Las Alcobas, Mexico City

Talk about a spa treatment that smells good enough to whet the appetite! We found just that at the Aurora Spa, located in the Las Alcobas hotel in Mexico City. Its Nourish Body Scrub and Wrap is designed to hydrate and exfoliate, leaving your skin deliciously silky and smooth.

Using only natural ingredients from local suppliers, the treatment begins with a body scrub made from crushed nuts, organic almond oil and organic honey, specifically designed to moisturize while exfoliating the skin. Once the scrub is complete, a creamy mixture of organic avocados, whipped up and combined with a pinch of yogurt and organic lavender oil, is applied to your body, and you are swaddled like a baby. Marjorie Charlton, the spa curator, tells us: “Avocados are full of antioxidants like beta-carotene and lecithin, which protect the skin from free radicals as well as being high in vitamin C to repair and nourish.”

While wrapped up to let the avocado’s nourishment soak in (and smelling like freshly made guacamole), a foot massage ensues, taking this treatment to an even higher level of indulgence.

Finally, a luxurious body soufflé of avocado and coco cream with a hint of lavender oil is applied to seal in the moisture from this decadent treatment. lasalcobas.com
