Ananda Spa

Narendranagar, India

Located in the spectacular Himalayan foothills, Ananda Spa is truly one with nature. The Spa is close to Rishikesh, considered by some to be the birthplace of yoga and Ayurveda, and the yoga program, in an outdoor pavilion, is transcendent. The Spa offers Ayurvedic treatments under the eye of an Ayurvedic doctor using organically grown botanicals and the Green Team has made a deep commitment to environmental sustainability with water and energy conservation, and programs that give back to the surrounding community. anandaspa.com

Lodge at Woodloch

Hawley, PA

Tucked away on a pretty lake in rural Pennsylvania, the Lodge at Woodloch employs a master organic gardener on staff and incorporates plants from the Healing Garden and Organic Farm into culinary and spa services. A local aromatherapist blends oils for the guests and a master herbalist runs holistic health workshops about keeping mind/body in balance with the seasons. Reusable water bottles, composting, eco-friendly cleaning supplies, recycling programs, and a partnership with the nearby Delaware Highlands Conservancy are some of the initiatives we applaud. thelodgeatwoodloch.com

The Nam Hai

Hawley, PA

This legendary resort is spread out over a pristine section of beach in southern Vietnam. Though the vibe here is one of serene luxury, the resort is also dedicated to preserving its environment. Along with programs to conserve electricity, water, and paper, the hotel has weekly "green days," when employees clean up the beach, and has recently opened an on-site organic farm, where the chef grows everything from lettuce and lemongrass to eggplant and amaranth. thenamhai.com

Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary

Rosewood Mayakoba

Riviera Maya, Mexico

With a full-time Environmental Responsibility Manager on site and a setting in an ecological reserve, this hotel walks the organic walk. Set along a mile of white-sand beach, the resort was built using renewable wood and Yucatan limestone, and designed so that beach, mangrove jungle and golf course are linked to subterranean water sources. The spa highlights Mayan healing techniques and local ingredients like organic aloe, agave, volcanic rock, and tepezcouhite, an herb used by Mayan elders to soothe skin issues. rosewoodhotels.com/en/mayakoba/

Spa Habitat

Dallas, TX

When owner/massage therapist Amy Bohn opened her first Spa Habitat, organic wasn't part of her agenda—but, inspired by the allergies, skin reactions, and chronic illnesses of some regular clients, she soon dedicated herself to creating the greenest spa around. Her four Dallas-area locations feature reclaimed and recycled materials, 100 percent use of wind power and treatments with organic product lines like the house-created Clovertree. Bohn also plants one tree for every service performed. spahabitat.com/

Turtle Bay Resort

Oahu, HI

The setting is stunning, but that is far from all this newly renovated property has to offer by way of natural beauty. The Green Committee has partnered with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii to support the mandates of beach cleans and ocean plastic awareness; all plastic is recycled and repurposed. Saline swimming pools eliminate the need for chlorine. The resort uses low VOC paints, eliminates water waste with low-flow faucets, recycles graywater, and the spa’s holistic treatments feature Osea and Naturopathica brands. turtlebayresort.com

The Organic Detox Facial features the Scientific Organics line, and other treatments incorporate locally-sourced ingredients. The Inn features green cleaning products, energy-efficiency and water conservation practices, and composting. woodstockinn.com
