COMO in the Caribbean: A Private Island Idyll

by Laura Itzkowitz

A Caribbean resort with a loyal following is back after post-hurricane work

Lisa Manser, the spa director at COMO Parrot Cay in Turks & Caicos, taps me gently on the shoulder and tells me to open my eyes and observe the footprints I’ve made in the sand, noting that I have a very calm presence. It would be hard not to feel calm here, in this private island paradise where I’ve spent mornings practicing yoga on the deck of my beachfront villa, enjoyed wholesome meals and slept with the gentle crashing of the waves as a lullaby.

Reopened late last year, the resort known for its holistic wellness program and barefoot luxury draws a dedicated crowd of A-list celebrities and wellness obsessives who come for the serene setting, organic spa treatments, fresh healthy food and extensive programming. (Donna Karan owns a home with a private yoga studio on the island.) There are yoga and Pilates classes, beach meditation sessions, pranayama breath classes and Ayurvedic talks with Dr. Parth Mahajan from Goa, not to mention massages and facials using COMO Shambhala’s own product line. The new-and-improved resort features renovated rooms and a new beach club serving cocktails and fresh juices with sea views. comohotels.com
