Fall is Cider Season: Homemade Apple Cider Recipe

Nothing warms you up from the inside out quite like a hot cup of homemade apple cider. We found the perfect recipe for a morning drink to sip while you map out your day. Add a little bit of rum and you’re set for a fun night out. The combination of superfoods in this delicious rendition of fall’s favorite hot beverage from Healthful Pursuit means it’s loaded with health and beauty benefits, too.

HOT APPLE CIDER RECIPE

Ingredients

4 cups freshly made apple juice (from the juice of four to six apples)
5 whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
4 whole cardamom pods
2 Chinese star anise
1 inch piece of fresh ginger
½ tsp fresh lemon zest
½ orange thinly slices

Preparation 

  1. ​Juice apples and place completed juice in a medium-sized saucepan
  2. Add cloves, cinnamon sticks, cardamom, anise, ginger and lemon zest
  3. Cover and heat on low-medium heat for 20 minutes. The mixture doesn’t need to boil, just warm (up to about 170 degrees F)
  4. Add orange slices during the last 5 minutes
  5. Remove from heat and strainServe immediately
