According to David Brooks, the New York Times columnist and author of The Road to Character, there are two distinct categories of personal strengths: the kind you include on your résumé and the kind people mention in your eulogy.

The difference between the two is profound. “The résumé virtues are the things that makes us good at our jobs,” David says during his SuperSoul Sundayinterview. “The eulogy virtues are the things they say about us after we’re dead—whether we’re honest, courageous, brave, capable of great love—and we all know the eulogy virtues are better.”

Super Soul Sunday airs on Sunday at 11a.m. and 7p.m. ET/PT on the OWN Network.
