When I was a young girl, my father and I would drive out to Montauk, then a sleepy fishing village at the tip of Long Island, to spend the day fishing. We would always pass Gurney’s, and even though it grew a bit worse for wear over the years, it was a great place to stop before we got out to the Montauk Point Lighthouse, our landmark at the end of the island.
Montauk is now a chic extension of the Hamptons. And the iconic Gurney’s (now Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa), in the midst of a multi-phase renovation by its new owners, is being restored to its original glory—and then some.
With stylish new oceanfront rooms, suites and cottages; a redesigned lobby that frames the endless ocean and private beach; and five new dining options—including the renowned Beach Club, featuring a Saturday summer BBQ with local seafood—it is the perfect beach getaway. The spruced-up Seawater Spa, featuring the only ocean-fed seawater swimming pool in the U.S., will roll out a second-phase renovation, overseen and managed by WTS International, the global spa consultancy and management firm.
Some things just keep getting better. gurneysmontauk.com
