A glowing complexion is one of the biggest beauty trends this fall. “Beautiful, natural, glowing skin always wins out over a makeup-packed face,” says Rose-Marie Swift, a makeup artist and founder of RMS Beauty organic color cosmetics. Swift also recommends adding a bright lip to bring color to natural complexions.

Dramatic Lids

“Matte black on the lids, thick black liner and tons of black mascara were seen all over the runways for fall,” says Katey Denno, a makeup artist with The Wall Group, who splits her time between New York and Los Angeles. “Additionally, color on the lid is huge, and Alima Pure offers a vibrant purple and a bright blue shadow, both of which are on trend.”

Collarbone Cuts

Cleaner lines and shorter cuts are big for fall, according to New York City-based Hairstylist Dyana Nematallah. “It’s perfect for those who want to trim off dead ends and sun-damaged locks from summer,” she says. “The collarbone length is elegant but easy to manage, and still long enough to throw up in a ponytail for workouts.”

Bushy Brows

Full, defined brows—think actress Brooke Shields or model Cara Delevingne—are huge for fall, which is news that will come as relief to anyone who hates to tweeze. “The thicker the better this season,” says Sally Biondo, an eco makeup artist based in New York.

Striking Hair Color

“Reds, like darker rich auburns, are huge this fall,” says Jennifer Sutton Jones, a hairstylist at Aviary Organic Beauty Collective in Atlanta, GA. “People are also becoming open to high fashion colors, like purples, blues and greens.” If you’re not ready to try a bold color throughout, Jones suggests just coloring your tips or incorporating a hidden panel of color underneath the top layer.

It’s long been used for cooking, but coconut oil has become a staple in beauty routines, too. “There’s a huge trend of people using coconut oil in their hair as conditioning treatment,” Jones says. “It’s great to put on the ends of your hair because it’s not too heavy and washes out pretty easily.”
