Urban Herb Garden at The Ritz Carlton, Los Angeles

by Nicole Dorsey Straff

Up on the roof of   The Ritz-Carlton Spa  is a plethora of organic, succulent summer fruit and flowering herbs inspired by the abundance of produce bursting into bloom in Southern California.

The new “Garden-to-Glamorous” spa treatments incorporate fruits (pomegranates and oranges) plus herbs and botanicals (dill, mint and more) pulled from obscurity in colorful well-tended rows.

Garden-to-Glamorous treatments will vary with the seasons and year-round plantings along the lush gardens where kitchen chefs, hotel guests and spa therapists may gather and snip the succulent produce for a variety of uses. (It’s such a pleasure to pick your own purple plum or feathery parsley.)

In addition to hot-enough eucalyptus steam room, the 8,000- square foot spa offers a summer signature called “Sea & Citrus” ($230 for 80 minutes) which starts with an exhilarating body scrub of natural sloughers, such as sea salt, and packed with vitamins C and E in via harvested citrus fruits. The gentle polish leaves skin luminous, and you can smell the lemongrass and lime.

Adjacent to the Staples Center and LA Live,  there are 123 rooms (with 13 suites for celeb VIPs and professional sports teams) and an eatery by Wolfgang Puck. Hotel guests may enjoy the signature champagne spa welcome to unparalleled personalized service, and a hair and nail salon that leaves both guests and Angelenos red-carpet ready.

Talk about hot fun in the summertime… Are you ready for your close-up?
