With energy costs on the rise, homeowners across the country are doing everything they can to reduce the cost of utilities. That’s why the Rocky River Green Home owners, Beverly and David Fischback are doing a little “forward thinking” when it comes to the windows that are being installed into their green home. Manufactured by Sun Windows & Doors, these windows are saving the Fischback’s some green by being green.

Amongst hundreds of other window companies in the market, some key features help Sun stand out from their competition – both in their products and their manufacturing process. All of Sun’s luxurious windows are made to order and contain Low-E glass filled with Argon, an inert gas that is heavier than oxygen, which makes it more thermally efficient. Sun windows utilize the Duralite system, the only non-metallic spacer system available. Duralite spacer systems are made from non-metallic materials so there is no transfer of excess heat or cold from the outside and helps retain Argon in the window. This means that the RRGH stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winters.

Not all of the magic is inside the windows. The powder coatings used on Sun windows are made by AkzoNobel, contain no VOCs, lead or chromium and are 100% reusable. Unlike conventional, lead-based paint, powder coating creates less waste and is so eco-friendly that what isn’t reused or recycled is safe enough to dispose into a household drain system. So why did the Fischback’s choose Sun over a locally owned manufacturer?

“When Beverly & I were reviewing windows,” explains homeowner David Fischback, “it was important not only to look for a high quality product that was energy efficient, but also look to a manufacturer who also believed in being environmentally concerned [during] the manufacturing process.”

Both Beverly and David wanted a company who not only created beautiful, energy-efficient windows but a company that cared as much for the environment as they do. Being a part of the Green Window Initiative, certified by the National Fenestration Rating Council, and an Energy Star Partner, Sun Windows became the obvious choice.

Product materials and certifications aside, Sun has something else going for it – location. With Sun’s manufacturing facility located in Owensboro KY, they are the closest wood/clad window manufacturer to the Rocky River area. That keeps fuel consumption and transportation costs to a minimum. In this eco-conscious day and age where so many factors go into a person’s ecological footprint, it’s nice to know that the Rocky River Green Home is stepping in the right direction.
