Step Into Summer With Safer Nail Polish

by Elke Erschfeld

Priti_NYC_2 (post)Now that open-toed shoe season is officially here it’s time to talk about the benefits of using a more eco-friendly nail polish. Unfortunately I don’t always have the time to seek out a salon that carries non-toxic nail polishes but I always make sure to bring my own PRITI NYC polish when splurging on a pedicure. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition with the goal to protect the health of consumers and workers in regards to the beauty industry, calls it BYOP (Bring Your Own Polish). Of course, the most natural way is to stay clear of nail polish and go au natural. But there are companies out there like PRITI that are safer for your health and the environment than conventional ones.

PRITI NYC was launched in 2005 with a mission to support organic farmers and decrease the amount of chemicals released on the environment. You might wonder what nail polish has to do with this. Well, conventional nail polish contains carcinogenic ingredients such as toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, and camphor whereas PRITI NYC polish is 5-free and vegan. Toxic nail polishes don’t only put your health at risk but the health of workers and the environment as well. They can leak into the soil and groundwater after you toss them. That’s why I like that PRITI NYC has a recycling policy with Chemwise in place where you can mail in your remaining bottle and polish.

As per Chemwise, a March 2002 U.S. Geological Survey report on wastewater contaminants in America’s streams found plasticizers, and possibly phthalates in 64 percent of 139 streams. Both are ingredients commonly found in conventional nail polish. So maybe next time you’ll think twice before choosing a pretty color. With PRITI NYC you won’t have to sacrifice style or quality by going less toxic. The nail polish comes in over 100 different shades, is fast drying, chip resistant, glossy and very durable. There’s a summer day and summer night kit with fun colors like Hula Girl Rose or Snapdragon. With so many choices it’s a good thing that PRITI NYC has a soy-based nail polish remover that’s 100% biodegradable, non-toxic, and non-carcinogenic as well.
