Happy Earth Day, everyone! If you are in New York City this Thursday evening—perhaps in anticipation of Green Fest this weekend?—and you are concerned about the environment, you won’t want to miss a screening of Award-winning television host/journalist Angela Sun’s first feature documentary, Plastic Paradise: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which Al Gore called “a thoughtful new documentary.”
The film is an examination of the Midway Atoll, one of the most remote places on earth, now ground zero for The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which is syphoning plastics from three distant continents. In this independent documentary film, journalist/filmmaker Sun travels on a personal journey of discovery to uncover this mysterious phenomenon. Along the way she meets scientists, researchers, influencers and volunteers who shed light on the effects of our rabid plastic consumption, and learns the problem is more insidious than we could have ever imagined.
A Bay Area Native from Silicon Valley, Angela Sun is a graduate of UCLA and also studied abroad at the University of New South Wales in Sydney. Sun conducted field research on the Great Barrier Reef while at UNSW and focused on the study of reef sharks. A certified EcoDiver with Reef Check, she surveyed the coral reefs of the Andaman Sea.
“Plastics revolutionized the way we live, yet if every piece of plastic that has ever been created is still somewhere on this planet, where does it go?,” says filmmaker Angela Sun. “I had to find out.”
