Tucked amid the tangled vineyards in Mendocino County, CA, Boonville, named after Daniel Boone’s grandson, easily assumes the mantle of perhaps the most organic town in America.

Check into the 12-room Boonville Hotel, with stunning vaulted ceilings in the main house, made from recycled wood, and skylights in the bungalows. Owner Johnny Schmitt (with wife Jeanne) is a chef whose parents were former owners of the French Laundry. An organic garden supplies food for delicious rustic meals on the Mediterranean-inspired menu. Enjoy a refreshing merlot or sauvignon blanc, certified organic by Certified California Organic Farmers (CCOF), and made nearby at the Yorkville Winery.

A short walk away, The Apple Farm (shed, pictured), also family-owned, features  three cottages on an heirloom apple orchard. The Demeter-certified biodynamic farm offers “Stay & Cook weekends,” a flock of chickens provides eggs for guests, and a farm stand features delicious jams and juices. philoapplefarm.com
