Experience Inc., the country's leading provider of career services for college students and alumni, has introduced an initiative that will bring together students and alumni from 3,800 colleges and universities to demonstrate their combined power to protect the environment.
Through Experience Green, more than 4 million college students and alumni will be asked to show their support. For every new person who joins the online community, Experience will plant a new tree in his or her honor. Each tree annually removes more than 50 pounds of carbon dioxide from the global atmosphere, thereby reducing the impact of CO2 on global climate change.
Trees return this gas to the soil, replacing it with oxygen while also converting the carbon into food, shelter and many other positive benefits to the planet. So if each of the 4 million students and alumni join the effort, the resulting forest of newly-planted trees would remove more than 200 million pounds of carbon dioxide.
Experience Green will also hire interns for various service organizations around the country that support environmental protection and the development of clean energy sources; unite the voices of millions of students and graduates to communicate with government leaders, and help graduates identify and pursue career opportunities with "green," environmentally-minded employers.
"There's a lot of rhetoric about the importance of protecting the environment, but unfortunately too many people still don't understand that even small efforts add up to a big difference," says Jenny Floren, founder and CEO of Experience, Inc. "As the workforce of the next generation begins to make career-related decisions, they will make it clear that an organization's commitment to protecting the environment is a very important factor."
