From creating sustainable spas to organic cuisine to innovative natural and organic products and treatments, the spa and wellness industry has taken a leadership role and made great strides towards impacting global sustainability.
To recognize those accomplishments, the Green Spa Network (GSN), a nonprofit organization that provides tools and support to steer the spa industry towards sustainability, honored some of the industry’s bright lights and visionaries at the Green Carpet Spa Sustainability Awards on September 24 at the Seventh Annual Green Spa Network Congress at the Inn and Spa at Loretto, in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

•Green Spa Network Visionary Award—Marti Morenings, founder and chair Universal Companies and EcoLogical Energy Systems
Winners were selected based on their sustainable practices, in addition to setting the best examples for the industry to follow, along with helping to make green initiatives desirable to consumers and employees.
“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized as the 2014 Green Spa of the Year,” says Jenny Helling, Healing Arts Center & Spa Director at Cavallo Point, Sausalito, CA, “especially after how hard we’ve worked to focus on sustainability at our hotel. This organization does incredible work raising awareness about sustainability and to be recognized by such an esteemed group is a great privilege.”
Among the esteemed panel of judges was Organic Spa Magazine Editor-In-Chief, Rona Berg, a Co-Chair of the GSN Personal Care Committee. Presenting the awards was Green Spa Network Executive Director, Paul Schmidt.
“These are the foremost leaders pushing the edge of innovation in our industry,” said Schmidt. “It is our privilege as a non-profit voice for sustainability to recognize the work of these visionaries whose examples can truly help set the standard for the spa and wellness industry around the planet. These awards help acknowledge the investment each has made in the name of sustainability and recognize them for a job well done.”
The Green Spa Network Sustainability Awards celebrate leadership, contributions and activities towards sustainability in the spa and wellness industry. The awards were launched in 2012 by the Green Spa Network. Congratulations to all of the winners!
