One of the advantages of my new home is that is has a nice kitchen and I’ve been cooking more from scratch. Trying out new healthy recipes has been fun, but it’s also created the need for measuring cups and spoons. As I was researching different sustainable materials, I discovered MOBOO by Natural Home Products. MOBOO stands for molded bamboo and is a non-toxic alternative to chemical-based plastic. Bamboo is a rapidly renewable resource, grows without pesticides and doesn’t need much water. This makes it a low-impact material, which Natural Home Products uses for cooking spoons, bowls and trivets.
What’s so cool about MOBOO is that it’s made with bamboo sawdust, which is a byproduct from the manufacturing process of the bamboo collection. It’s combined with bamboo fiber, rice starch and an all-natural plant-based binder to create safe spatulas, bowls or ladles—and even an ice cream scoop in bright red. This makes it better for the environment and human health since it replaces chemical-based plastic.
The Ribbed Measuring Cups come as a set in four colors and include a 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 and 1 cup. All cups have a slightly nostalgic look in terms of shape, which is offset by the bold colors. The result is an overall sleek design that’s fun to look at. The Ribbed Measuring Spoons are equally well designed with a matching color scheme, and the set includes a 1/4 teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon. Unfortunately though, the measuring cups and spoons were not dishwasher top rack-safe as mentioned on the packaging. Part of the varnish peeled off after my first wash, so I would recommend to hand wash them.
Other brands by Natural Home Products use additional sustainable materials such as organic cotton, recycled glass, or renewable and biodegradable cork. On their site you’ll find oven mitts made of organic cotton, bottles made from recycled glass and coasters made of cork. What all those products have in common is that they are designed with a timeless sensibility. This means you can use them over and over for many years to come. Reusing what you have is still the greenest alternative for your kitchen and home.
