Pg 21 - Blurring the Lines
You wouldn't know it to look at them, but these "Umasi" tables are made of Baltic birch plywood (discarded from a cabinet shop) and southern yellow pine from a salvaged boat mast. They're part of a series of objects that are sometimes functional, sometimes not, and are intended to blur the line between sculpture and furniture. Their creator, Wells Mason, describes them as "exploring the nature of our disposable society and comments on what we throw away." We'll drink to that. $1,650 each, Ironwood Industries, www.ironwoodindustries.com - Rima Suqi
