Fashion week is a busy time in New York City, but if you want to get out and support a great cause, show the environment some LOVE, and have a blast, come to the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) benefit on Sunday, February 17, 6:30-10:30 pm, at The Cutting Room, 44 East 32 Street, NYC.

You’ll mingle with celebrity hosts Chris Noth, Whoopi Goldberg and the cast of The Good Wife, enjoy a performance by Grammy Award winner Shawn Colvin, rock around the dance floor, nibble on tastings created by renowned chef Herve Riou, signature cocktails and vino at the wine bar, and an auction featuring a rare collection of autographed guitars, donated by some of your favorite rockers. Look for yours truly over by the red carpet!

And guess what you’ll find in the VIP gift bags (donated by ecobags.com)? The current issue of Organic Spa Magazine, with Glamorous Green Actress Christine Taylor on the cover!  We know when to support a good cause, and hope you will, too! Besides, this promises to be a rocking party.

Here is why RAN is important:
PROTECT RAINFORESTS Although estimates vary widely, conservative studies suggest more than a million hectares (2.4 million acres) of Indonesian rainforest is cleared and lost each year,
SAVE ORANGUTANS losing their habitats due to deforestation
PUSH FOR GREEN ENERGY The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published a report in 2010 that examined 164 different energy scenarios and found that with the right policies in place, renewable energy can supply up to 43% of energy in 2030 and 77% in 2050.
PRESSURE CORPORATIONS to clean up their toxic dumping in the Amazon, balance profits with principles and change their policies regarding paper and palm oil
The Rainforest Action Network’s  stated mission is to campaign “for the forests, their inhabitants and the natural systems that sustain life by transforming the global marketplace through education, grassroots organizing and non-violent direct action.”  Founded in 1985, RAN works with environmental groups in 60 countries to protect the rainforests and the human rights of those who live there. Through financial contributions and a vast network of services, RAN supports the efforts of indigenous and environmental groups in tropical countries to achieve ecologically sustainable solutions within their regions.

General admission is $80; VIP tickets are $250.  For info, or to purchase tickets: ran.org/nycbenefit Hope to see you there!
