Make a PACT: Change Your Camisole, Change The World

by Elke Erschfeld

PACT

How would you like to help build urban gardens across America by treating yourself to new underwear made of soft, organic cotton? For every camisole you buy, PACT pays it forward by having a positive impact on the world. It’s part of PACT’s philosophy that each season, the collection is designed specifically for a cause it promotes.

For spring 2013, PACT teamed up with the Whole Kids Foundation and Indiegogo to raise money for building 100 urban gardens at schools all across America. According to Indiegogo’s site, only 2% of American children eat enough fruits and vegetables. The project not only increases access to healthy food but also allows kids to experience first-hand where it comes from, which might help them appreciate it more. Previous projects supported by PACT included planting trees in America, handing out solar-powered lanterns in Haiti, and sponsoring tutoring classes benefitting inner city youth across America.

I like PACT’s approach to design because it looks at the entire supply chain, including the growing and harvesting of organic cotton and the sewing process at GOTS certified facilities. All sustainable panties, camisoles, tees, socks and leggings come in packaging printed with vegetable-based inks. Its paper is made from FSC-controlled wood in a factory powered by wind energy, and the carbon impact is offset by climate partners.

This season’s colorful designs are inspired by the heritage of farming, including the navy bandana camisole, the zig-zag camisole influenced by vintage horse blankets and the simple tomato camisole; pair them with with matching boy shorts, bikinis, hipsters and thongs. Turn over a new leaf in spring by making a PACT–purchase sustainable underwear that feels and does good.
