Your Organic Beauty expert here, with a “detox” update that’s focused on our colon.
“We’ll Have Buckets of Fun!”…this exhortation is Karyn’s way of having fun with us as she plunges in (no pun intended!) to discussing enemas or colonics being added to our 28-day cleanse protocol–and shows us how to use the enema bucket that we’ll all be taking home with us. For those who want to catch up on my experiences with Karyn’s cleanse, you can begin here… Renewal, Rejuvenation & Rebirth w/Karyn’s 28-Day Cleanse!
It’s been said that our gut is our second brain…and the seat of our immune system (lots of lymphatic tissue). If our gastro-intestinal system is compromised in any way, the repercussions can show up in our mindbody physiology in widely varying (and not so enjoyable ways) ways.
In my mind’s eye, I am thinking this will be one of the more challenging parts of the detox. Committing to doing regular enemas/colonics, that is. I’ve chosen to do colonics with a colon therapist…and I’ve received quite the education, trust me! My first one EVER, was with certified colon therapist, Sharon at Karyn’s Inner Beauty Spa which is at Karyn’s Fresh Corner (which also includes a marvelous fine-dining restaurant, cafe/organic juice bar, store, and the spa). As Karyn shares during our classtime, “Please have an attitude of gratitude for these therapists who keep the bowels of the earth clean.” Yes indeed, one can not help having appreciation for someone who has chosen this as their profession or dharma. Let me say, the colonic was a breeze! Sharon guided me on what to do, and along the way over the 45 minute appointment, shared a number of important facts and figures about the importance of colonics. Toward the end she did an “implant” of chlorophyll, which is also part of the protocol. Again what an education. I have to say, I’m feeling lighter and brighter in body and mind. And the bloatedness that I was feeling is gone. Hallelujah!
The concept here is that diet, stress and toxins from our internal and external environments can quickly cause a build up of undigested matter in our large intestine/colon. Impacted fecal matter can be responsible for a myriad of ailments including indigestion, acne, body odor and poor nutrient absorption. Colon therapy is one of the most effective ways to quickly cleanse and heal the body by eliminating accumulated and impacted fecal matter. The certified colon therapist uses a state of the art apparatus that gently flows tepid water in and out of the body while strengthening the colon muscle tissues. At Karyn’s they also recommend using oxygen or adding an implant of wheatgrass, chlorophyll (what I had done) or rejuvelac to help pull out excess mucous and replenish good bacteria.
Taking an enema or colonic, especially while doing the 28 day program is about optimizing the detoxification process going on inside the body ala the removal of stored toxins and dead waste that’s wanting to come out. And if you have a tummy and/or bloating of any kind, never fear, colonics can help in eliminating this. That abdominal bulge that we often dismiss as another part of aging is a sure sign that wastes have built up in the colon. Our bodies are not able to use the nutrients from our food optimally, when there is this accumulation of waste.
This from Karyn’s Book “Soak Your Nuts: Cleansing with Karyn,” “Enemas and colonic irrigation have been used for thousands of years. Hippocrates (the father of medicine) used enemas to heal fevers. Ancient Romans, who made baths an obsession, considered enemas a part of good hygiene. The Essenes, who believed the body was a temple for the spirit, described using an internal cleansing system that would prepare their bodies to house the developing soul.”
And Karyn further shares, “I have found internal irrigation to be almost magically curative. My clients credit this therapy for relieving their rashes and other skin disorders, and even improving their eyesight. Whatever other benefits of colon therapy you experience, it will speed the removal of toxins from your body and elevate your cleansing efforts to a new level.”
So there you have it, “Buckets of fun.” And a state-of-the-art application of an ages-old technique. Colonics can be helpful as an adjunct therapy in the treatment of many medical conditions, including arthritis, back pain, cancer, dermatological problems, flatulence, headaches, heart disease, high blood pressure, fatigue, thyroid deficiency, and many others…
For your consideration, my friends. An en-”lightening” experience for certain.
Til soon!
Organically yours,
Mary Beth
