Style News October

Below the Surface

For “Stella,” her new fall/winter lingerie collection, Stella McCartney set out to make her bras and bikinis (aka “knickers”) as thin, light and streamlined as possible. And it’s another Stella success story: no seams, no wires, and the fit—with three styles in three stylish fabrications—is gossamer-soft and creates a beautiful silhouette. Plus it’s eco-friendly, featuring a mix of organic cotton gussets and recycled metal hardware. Prices range from $65 for a bra to $28 for bottoms.

It seems like McCartney is on a roll. Kudos to the designer, a vegetarian who uses no leather or fur in her collections, for announcing the Stella McCartney Scholarship recently, at an awards ceremony at her alma mater, Central Saint Martins in London College of Art and Design. The program will fund master’s of fashion students from all over the world, based on academic performance and financial need. Plus, it will include a glittering prize: a one-year placement at McCartney’s fashion house, with this caveat: scholarship winners may not work with leather, fur or products that harm animals. stellamccartney.com

Earth Matters

SpaRitual Fall Collection

The new SpaRitual Fall Nail Lacquer Collection, “Rock,” offers a range of gorgeous shades like Marble, a white shimmer; Slate, a gray metallic; and Basalt, a creamy charcoal. The nail lacquers are not only inspired by geologic formations. They are actually literally infused with rhyolite, volcanic magma from the Lipari Islands, which adds a unique texture and tone. SpaRitual is a vegan line that is free of the ingredients you will want to avoid: DBP, toluene, formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin. $10; sparitual.com.
