An Equine Encounter at Old Stone Farm

by Organic Spa Magazine

Old Stone Farm

Over 14 years ago, Sherry Kahn and her late husband Stu, embarked on a labor of love: to transform a neglected 236-acre property near Rhinebeck, NY, into Old Stone Farm, a bucolic retreat.

Old Stone Farm—now a working horse farm with a gifted chef and a jewel of a spa—has become one of my all-time favorite places to visit when I need some soul-succoring peace and quiet. The 10 airy rooms in the main inn, and four-bedroom guesthouse, are beautifully appointed with country antiques, original art and organic mattresses; deep woods offer hiking trails and guided nature walks; an open-air pavilion provides an irresistible spot to read, journal, watercolor, enjoy a glass of wine or simply savor the silence; and the Yoga Barn (circa 1759) offers daily classes. Birdhouses hide the geothermal systems, and solar energy provides power. And then there are the horses: 22 beauties, and a certified Eponaquest program—a uniquely therapeutic equestrian experience that you will not want to miss.

Old Stone Farm is the perfect spot for a corporate retreat, a wedding, a workshop (October 15 features Mark Matousek), or simply a memorable getaway. oldstonefarm.org
