A Makeup Wakeup Call

by Organic Spa Magazine

When it comes to makeup, summer is the season of sheer. “I try and make sure the makeup is very light,” says celebrity makeup artist and natural beauty expert Lina Hanson, who just launched Lina Hanson Global Body Serum, a blend of 10 beautiful plant oils from around the globe (linahanson.com). “You really just want to go with tinted moisturizer and cream blush for that glow from within look.”

It can also be a fun time to play with a pop of color. Hot looks this season feature pretty pastel eyeshadows (think turquoise or peach); bold greens, lavenders and blues); gold and nude sheer shades; and gloss or lip stains in pink and citrus. Here are some easy makeup ideas from some of our favorite natural beauty experts.
The Eyes Have It
For Katey Denno, a celebrity makeup artist who blogs at The Beauty of It Is (thebeautyofitis.com), this season is all about playing up the eyes. “The focus right now is on the eyes, whether that’s a sheer white wash of shadow on the lid and below the bottom lashes, a slightly smudged kohl inside the upper and lower lash line, a royal blue line above the lashes or a bold pop of bright green inside the lash line,” says Denno. “Even if you do nothing else, you’ll go a long way just playing up your eyes.”
Soft Flush
To keep your face looking as soft as the season, opt for baby pink color on your cheeks and lips. Swipe a dash of powder blush on your cheeks and pair it with a pale baby pink lipstick. “What’s nice about this is that it’s a really subtle way to wake up the face,” says Jessa Blades, a natural beauty and makeup artist in New York City, and founder of bladesnaturalbeauty.com.
Pink or Citrusy Lips
If you are wearing color on your eyes, it’s a good idea to balance it out with an understated lip, or vice versa–but not both. “Switch it up with your lipstick,” says Hanson, who recommends a sheer gloss for day and one of the season’s new shades of orange, peach or pink for a night out.
Satiny Skin
“As the season changes, the skin gets more oily, so you need to tone that down,” says Hanson. “Blotting papers or primer will make sure the oil doesn’t interfere with the makeup, and it will last longer that way.” Carry Tatcha Aburatorigami Blotting Papers in your purse–handmade in Japan from abaca leaf,  $12; spiritbeautylounge.com
