Beauty Visionary – Rose-Marie Swift

It may come naturally when you reconnect with friends and family over the holiday season. But most of us need a bit of help to bring that inner glow to light on the outside. Celebrity makeup artist and RMS Beauty founder Rose-Marie Swift shares her expert tips with Organic Spa Magazine.

Makeup artist Rose-Marie Swift has been a visionary in the beauty industry for over 20 years. Her work is featured in Vogue, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, and more. She creates looks for top models and celebrities like Gisele Bundchen, Gretchen Moll, Sheryl Crow, and Celine Dion.

Swift launched her own line, RMS Beauty, after health issues led doctors to find high levels of heavy metals in her body, which a technician attributed to years of exposure to the contents of her makeup kit! A color cosmetic/skincare hybrid, RMS Beauty is made from raw organic ingredients and pure minerals. It is easy to apply (I use my fingers) and, because it was created with the eye of a color artist, the palette is sublime. We sat down with Swift to find out how it can work for you.

Q: Before we talk about makeup, what do you recommend that women do on the inside to get skin glowing on the outside?

I am a firm believer that “the skin is a mirror to your gut.” Everything we can do to keep our skin beautiful comes from what we eat and drink and how we treat our skin. Clean filtered water is a must, as well as organic green juices, which help flush the system. Eating fresh fruit and vegetables preferably in their raw state or slightly steamed are always healing to the body. The skin loves pure organic oils. Exercise stimulates the whole system and feeds the body oxygen which stimulates the skin. Just think healthy.

Q: What can lead to dull-looking skin?

Lack of circulation and dehydration as well as an unhealthy diet can cause dull skin. Alcohol, sugar and cigarettes are also on the nasty list.

Q: You work with celebrities and top models with beautiful skin. Are there any secrets from them that you can share?

Many of the models go for oxygen treatments to the skin as well as sauna treatments. Far infrared saunas detox both the skin and the body all in one. They are also my favorite.

Q: And when their skin is less than stellar, how do you correct it?

The skin loves stimulation, which circulates the blood and brings life back to the skin that isn’t behaving. A simple massage with fingers helps tremendously. I like to add my new RMS Beauty Oil, as it has adaptogenic herbs that balance the skin as well as exotic oils know for their high antioxidant properties and naturally high levels of vitamins. One of the ingredients is buriti oil from Brazil with natural Vitamin A and betacarotene. For extra help on blemishes, I use a fine brush and my “Un” Cover-up to add little touch-ups just on the blemishes themselves.

Q: Can you recommend an eye cream? Face mask to moisturize dehydrated skin?

Dr. Alkaitis Organic Eye Cream is a favorite among the models and celebrities. Dehydrated skin loves Kahina Giving Beauty Serum. My favorite mask to brighten the skin is Dr. Alkaitis Organic Universal Mask. It feeds and instantly brings life to any dull skin. A mild scrub is Arcona Golden Grain Gommage AM.

THE LUMINOUS LOOK

Here is the step-by-step from Swift for how to create the look she created for page 31. All products by RMS Beauty (rmsbeauty.com)

1. Beauty Oil Apply two to three drops to the skin. It absorbs easily and gives the added moisture needed to glow and be healthy.

2. “Un”Cover-up #33 Apply this concealer/foundation where needed—less is more—to cover up small imperfections and redness.

3. “Sublime” LipShine A new sheer shade that is both modern and bright. I used this on both her lips and her cheeks to add a little extra glow.

4. Living Luminizer Dab with fingertips over the cheekbones, in the inner corner of eyes and slightly above the bow of the lip. Add a small amount just above the lashes on the lid when you don’t wear eye shadow for a light-reflective glow to the eyes.

5. “Seduce” Cream Eye Shadow
Apply to clean lids and work gently into the skin. These sheer shadows have a veil-like quality not seen in traditional eye shadows. This color accents her blue eyes.

6. Beauty Mascara Darkens and brings attention to the eye lashes. Launching 2013.

7. “Un”Powder This new powder is virtually undetectable yet absorbs unwanted shine around nose and forehead. Perfect for any skin tone. Do not powder over the Luminizer as it will matte down the glow.
